Frequently asked questions and what puts us ahead of the pack.

Everyone’s first question is ‘how much money this will cost’, so let’s not waste time with the answer!

  • A popular package for many realtors and home owners consists of 4-8 edited photos and a 15-20 second video detailing highlights of the property and any features that were discussed in the planning of the flight. The professionally edited media can be delivered digitally within 48hrs of concluding the flight. This package costs $350.

  • The next level up, which is extremely popular for larger properties or higher profile listings, consists of 8-12 edited photos and a 30-45 second video. This not only ties together the best points from the basic package, but also gives more room to allow for angles such as the popular ‘bird’s eye view’ and photos which show different lighting characteristics of the house during dusk, twilight and daytime hours. This package costs $475.

  • If the scope of the job changes during the planning phase, an estimate of the additional time needed will be reviewed with you and agreed upon so that there are no surprises. For specific Photoshop editing or work done outside of the scope of the above packages, we charge $85/hr.

  • For other aerial photography needs for private events or otherwise, please reach out to us via email and we will find a solution and pricing structure that works for your budget. We are willing and able to find solutions to fulfill your photography goals!

A question I often get is ‘what stops me from buying a drone and doing this myself?’

  • One word. Experience.

The biggest reason to hire a professional is the experience and knowledge they bring to the job. Our knowledge of the equipment and the flight systems help us to get the maximum results from the camera. The amount of time it will cost you to get licensed, learn how to fly the drone, figure out the camera settings, learn the details of the editing software and get time to put it all together will cost you more in the long run.

  • Certification and licensing with Transport Canada is another key reason. Canada has some of the most stringent rules regarding drone flight, and for good reason. If you are flying a drone over 250 grams in total mass, you must not only be licensed as a Basic Drone Operator but also register your drone with Transport Canada. If you intend to fly a drone in a restricted aerodrome, which coincidentally includes Victoria and Vancouver, you must hold a Transport Canada Advanced Drone Pilot license, and file a flight plan before taking off. Failure to do so will cost thousands of dollars in fines and endanger any aircraft in the area.

TopshotdroneBC’s pilots hold Advanced Drone Pilot’s Licenses and takes care of all flight approvals with necessary regulatory bodies for your project.
